Experience Summary
I have my Teaching Credential from CA. I went to a liberal arts college where I earned a BA in Psychology, minor in Spanish, and spent my years there as a tutor or mentor. I studied topics from philosophy to biology, have strong writing skills and did original research. I worked at a non-profit helping students prepare for success in rigorous college prep schools where I taught test taking and organizational skills, along with English and math. I worked at a preK—8th grade private school where I differentiated instruction to meet individual needs and taught 7th grade Spanish. While at UC Davis, I learned the most current teaching methodologies, taught in 5th grade and kindergarten classes and worked 1-on-1 with students in English and math.
Teaching Style
I believe that learning should be fun and meaningful and I want the students I work with to be inspired and engaged in their own learning process. When possible I prefer to use hands-on learning techniques. I encourage students to ask questions and make connections to the world around them. It is through constructing this knowledge that students will be able to think logically and transfer their knowledge to new situations. Through developing a meaningful relationship with each student I work with, I better understand her needs, interests and motivations and can support her learning. Through mutual respect, I can help a student to achieve at higher levels and reach her potential.
