Experience Summary
While completing my B.A. in Management at Eckerd, I learned how to write effectively and enhanced my understanding of grammar, mathematics, history, social studies and economics. As a volunteer tutor at a public school and at my church, I began to develop my teaching skills. These rewarding experiences motivated me to become a full-time teacher. Teaching English and Learning Strategies for four years has taught me how to address students’ individual needs. I enhanced my knowledge further by successfully completing two American Literature courses last summer. I continue volunteer teaching children and young adults at two different organizations.
Teaching Style
I discovered my love of teaching when I started volunteering as a reading tutor and youth group leader. I am most effective when I work with students in a one-on-one or small group setting, which allows me to focus on individual students’ strengths and challenges. I customize my approach with each student’s particular learning style in mind. My goal is that students understand and learn to think critically and independently, not simply memorize. When I see a child’s eyes light up with understanding and smile at accomplishment, I know I have succeeded in making a difference.
