Experience Summary
I started teaching professionally in Tampa, Florida in 1992. I continued to teach in the Florida Public Schools until 1999 before I returned to school to earn my Master's.
Now, I teach English to Adults at Wallace Community College, which I have been doing since 2003. I love what I do. When I got my Master's in 2005, I was able to conduct classroom research which enabled me to reach a deeper level in the principles of both linguistics and the science of learning.
In 2008, I published my first book. I currently write a monthly article for the "MundoLatino" newspaper. Occasionally, I do contract work as a proofreader. At present, I am preparing a presentation for the AMTESOL Seminar in Jacksonville in 2011.
Teaching Style
I believe the teacher needs to create a safe learning environment, explore different learning styles, and always keep in mind Bloom's Taxonomy.(yes, the fundamentals are still important)
I prefer to teach students the curriculum, not teach curriculum to the students.
Students need a chance to discover, explore and apply prior learning principles to progress successfully to a different level of learning.
And finally, the most important... LEARNING IS FUN!
LET IT HAPPEN!
