Experience Summary
Since 1991, I have been tutoring and teaching children in Florida, California and Costa Rica. In addition to being a tutor, I have worked with children in many capacities from after-school program coordinator to curriculum writer and summer camp counselor and instructor. I earned my BA degree from Florida A&M University in Visual Arts and History and my Master's degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in Dance Ethnography. Instructing my own ten year old daughter has also further enhanced my ability to work one-on-one with individual students. During the last 19 years, I have instructed and tutored students in reading, writing, math, English, Spanish, visual arts, dance, science, history and music appreciation.
Teaching Style
I deeply enjoy teaching children from all different age groups, cultural, social and economic backgrounds. I believe that patience and working with each child to find their own unique way of learning is fundamental to the teaching process. Giving positive feedback while utilizing solid teaching skills helps each student to be motivated to achieve their best. I want to help each student I tutor to feel confident about their ability to learn and succeed. It is my goal to provide the proper academic tools for each child to achieve their personal best in a positive and nurturing educational environment. I hope to influence my students to see learning as a lifelong process that is both rewarding and satisfying.
