Experience Summary
I have recently received my Master's Degree in Special Education from Salem State College and have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education form Assumption college. I am certified by the Massachusetts Department of Education in both areas. For the past two years I worked as an Instructional Assistant for 6th-8th grade students with Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, and Social/Emotional Behavioral Disorders. Beginning in August of 2010 I will be teaching a 4th/5th grade split language-based class. I worked at Sylvan learning center tutoring a few summers ago and spend the majority of my time working with children whether it be teaching, tutoring, or babysitting. My strongest areas include English- reading, writing, language arts, and math.
Teaching Style
I use a very hands-on approach. I think that 1-on-1 is most beneficial to all. I understand that all children learn in different ways and am flexible when it comes to adapting to each child's learning style. I believe that it takes some time to get to know each child and learn what works best for him/her, however all children have potential to achieve high levels of success. I truly believe that tutoring can make a huge difference in a child's education which is why I continue to pursue my career in the field of education.
