Experience Summary
I have three children ages 12, 17 and 20 and have had many years of real world tutoring with them. I've also tutored other students, which is far easier.
These experiences have allowed me to discover many techniques to keep students engaged and prevent them from becoming frustrated. I'm sure I can work successfully with your son or daughter.
I have a strong background in math and science (Ph.D. from MIT) and excellent English and organizational skills.
I have passed the MTEL Communication and Literacy Skills test and the MTEL Middle School Mathematics test and hold a Massachusetts license to teach middle school math.
Teaching Style
My tutoring style is very friendly and supportive. I'm much more like a coach than a teacher. I work closely with each student to identify stumbling blocks and I introduce alternate ways of understanding that concept working interactively with the student until they understand it.
I believe working in this way insures that the student is responsible for their own work, yet knows that if they are stuck I will help them through the areas which are hard for them.
