Experience Summary
I have taught college writing and literature at the University of Maryland for the last two years while completing my M.A. in English Language and Literature, and I will continue to teach writing there this fall. I also did peer tutoring in English and Philosophy when I was an undergraduate.
Teaching Style
I believe that teaching should be as student-centered as possible. This means primarily two things. First, it means students should be as active in their education as possible. I see myself as a guide, who will teach students the skills they need to discover knowledge in the future, rather than as a provider of knowledge. Second, it means that I always take students interests, learning profiles, and abilities into account when planning lessons or tutoring sessions. More generally, I am a teacher who is extremely organized but also very creative with my lesson plans. Through making lessons interactive and interesting, I've found that students get engaged in the material and learn more effectively.
