Experience Summary
I was a music specialist for one semester. It was a great experience that I truly enjoyed. I taught grades K-5. I was responsible for creating my own lesson plans and activities for the 40 minutes of music class. I introduced recorders to the 5th grade. Then I put together a booklet for them to teach themselves how to play more songs. They looked forward to working on this summer project independently.
I tutored 5th and a 3rd graders this last year. A fifth grade student of mine was falling behind in her work load and brought home a below average report card during the first quarter of school. After my help her grades climbed to almost the A/B honor roll. Her parents were pleased with her improved grades, attitude, and self concept.
Teaching Style
I enjoy meeting new students and learning what their individual needs are to better teach them the concepts they need to know. I individualize their tutoring sessions by using different techniques such as auditory, oral, visual, and interactive methods. I understand how to be patient when working with children. I keep the sessions structured to keep students focused. I teach them organization skills, better study habits, and the motivation to keep them on task.
I feel my experiences have made me a successful tutor. I feel confident that I can help students meet their potential. It's motivating to watch their self concept grow as their skills improve.
