Experience Summary
My work with kids began during my Bachelor's degree, when I taught math skills to a group of ten-year olds at summer camp. It was quite rewarding to see the kids not only have fun, but remember the tutors that they learned from many years after their graduation from camp. My first degree solidified my calculus and algebra maths skills, whilst my second degree solidified my biology and chemistry skills. During my second degree, I was fortunate enough to work with the Oceanography camp for girls in St. Petersburg, which further fostered my love for teaching outside of the classroom. I taught a USF math camp last summer, and I have tutored math, english, science and SAT prep for the past three years.
Teaching Style
Patience and listening to a child's needs and responses is the key to success. Every child responds to different stimulus to varying degrees, so tutoring methods should be tailored to suit. That said, unless a child is 12 or under, learning is about discipline, rather than fun - so I do expect my older students to meet me halfway in the tutoring endeavor, in order for them to be successful.
