Experience Summary
Throughout my life I have tried to acquire a knowledge of the world around me. To meet this end, I was an English major with a Bachelors of Science degree and then I received a Masters in Geography.
After school I worked with the U.S. Geological Survey studying water quality. While I loved this work and it taught me how to be a hard scientist, there was something missing.
I ventured into teaching through environmental education. For two years I taught outdoor education, teaching grades K-8. I then moved to Florida where I gained my professional teaching certificate while teaching middle school science.
Teaching Style
I value hands-on learning and discussion in teaching. Only when there is a discussion can our minds open to what is possible. Whether it is reading a passage, a novel, or an article and discussing what is said, what it could mean, and how it affects us or others or if is going outside to study ecological relationships, I want to engage my students in their learning. Only when a student makes the learning his will he grow and test himself with what he can learn and do.
I am patient and am willing to try many avenues to teach your child.
