Experience Summary
As a graduate of a top-level liberal arts college, I found that great teachers are the best influence for great teaching. I have been teaching for 6 years with experience at the middle school, high school, and college level. I have tutored students in writing, math, science, music, and test prep. For three years, I ran the Kenyon College Statistics Clinic where I tutored students in entry and upper level statistics courses. I have extensive experience with various mathematical software packages and have one publication pending in which these packages were utilized. While at Kenyon, I earned degrees in Music and Mathematics with a concentration in Statistics. I continue to use these skills today as a middle and high school teacher and coach.
Teaching Style
Instead of "teacher" or "tutor", my students have come to know me as their "thinking coach." I pride myself in being able to adapt my "coaching" style for each individual. I am a firm believer in not simply providing and answer, but helping students find the answers for themselves. I stress the importance of proper written and verbal communication and while improvement takes time and effort, both the students and I live for the moments when the light simply "comes on." Through humor, patience, and encouragement, we learn from each other and make one another stronger students, teachers, and communicators.
