Experience Summary
As a graduate of Colorado College with a BA in mathematics, I have learned math ranging from calculus and below up to complex analysis and abstract algebra II. A full list of classes is contained on my resume. These classes have given me the mathematical knowledge I need to tutor other students. I know the material and can effectively explain it to others. I have worked as a tutor for the Colorado College math department for two years. I mostly tutor calculus I and II, but questions from many subjects come up and I am constantly helping peers from other subjects with their mathematical problems. I have also done volunteer tutoring at a local Colorado Springs elementary school where I helped students in algebra.
Teaching Style
I have worked with children from a variety of perspectives, as a camp counselor, a coach, and a tutor. Through these experiences I have developed a repore with younger students that helps me to communicate ideas effectively. Explaining the logic of math goes rather smoothly in comparison to the complexities of sports, the ability to stay cool throughout challenging topics helps students feel comfortable and confident in their calculations. I believe all students can master mathematics, teaching it to them is just a matter of building their understanding of a subject up from axioms, or topics they already comprehend.
