Experience Summary
During my undergraduate years at the University of Oregon, I spent several months in Mexico teaching English to children ranging in age from 6-15. During this time I perfected my Spanish as well, and wrote many papers in both Spanish and English.
While pursuing my Electrical Engineering degree at the University of Tulsa, I taught Kumon math classes to children, and fellow Engineering students in electronics. I have kept up my French reading and speaking skills.
Recently I have been intensively studying dance, especially salsa, Argentine tango, and African, and have been taking some ballet classes. I find that I am very effective at helping beginning dance students to develop their talents.
Teaching Style
I am good at tuning in with each individual's basic nature, and working with the talents that they do have but may not recognize. Through patience and a playful sense of fun, I can help people to help themselves, to recognize how they can make sense of material that at first seems daunting. I do my best to make it a team effort, to let the student drive the learning in order to achieve a sense of accomplishment. I pay attention to what works, emotionally and psychologically, for the student, and find ways to build on those successes.
