Experience Summary
Writing is my forte and always has been. I have assisted my peers and those younger than me in their writing efforts in school a number of times and I held an editor position with the newspaper at Highline Community College. My responsibility there was to copy edit each story, as well as write my own articles.
I have experience working with elementary school age youth through being a camp leader for 5th and 6th graders, and being an aunt to 2 boys ages 8 and 11. I have also spent time with a person with a mental disability through a program called "Stepping Out for Fun" in which I spent time with a girl my age, doing things any typical teenage girl would.
Teaching Style
I am patient and thorough. Writing may be my forte, but I understand what it feels like to struggle with a particular subject. I know what I needed to be able to learn, and I try to give that to those who ask me for my help. I believe persistence, encouragement, and praise are the best means of helping a struggling student learn. Frustration will inevitably be felt by the student, but it is my responsibility to help the child work through that and absorb what I am helping him or her learn.
