Experience Summary
As a graduate from a top-10 university and from graduate school, I know what it takes to get into a top program and succeed at a high level. In the past 5 year, I have been working as a consultant in the environmental industry, but want to take some time off now to explore other interest.
I have previously tutored underprivileged teenage girls at the Florence Crittenton Center in Los Angeles for about one-year as a volunteer back in 2001. I found that experience enjoyable but never pursued it much further due to the demands of school at the time. Despite my lack of tutoring experience, I bring a wide scope of experience in the sciences and mathematics that would make me an outstanding tutor.
Teaching Style
During the ups and downs of my undergraduate career, I became self-aware of the challenges that a student faces, especially within subjects that are not his/her strong suits. I believe the best approach is one where self-motivation from within is encouraged, as any subject is difficult without the right motivation. To identify the right motivation, as a tutor back in 2001, I took time to discuss with the students their interests and goals. By understanding them on this personal level, I felt it was easier to connect with them and make them realize that their success was of great importance to me.
