Experience Summary
I have a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis in Renewable Natural Resources and a Clear Single Subject Credential in Biological Sciences and Foundational Math (all but calculus). I have home schooled my children, worked in a private school both tutoring and teaching and taught in a public high school over the last 22 years. I have tutored groups and individuals in the following subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Calculus, Trigonometry, History, English, and all subjects down to the second grade level. I have taught classes in Biology, Pre- Algebra, Applied Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, World History, Composition, English 10, English 11, English 12, and Art and led a lab in Sign Language.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is to lead the student into an understanding of the material through discussion, hands-on projects, practice and mastery. It is important to master the previous material before moving on to the new. It is also important to relate new topics to what the student already knows. This helps the student to not only understand it better but also to remember it better and use it correctly. I am patient and creative in finding ways to present ideas in ways that will connect with real life. I believe that all children can learn, given the right methods and the willingness to learn.
