Experience Summary
As a senior in high school, I elected to spend an hour of each day in the Guidance Office to assist in administrative work. One of the counselors found out I liked math and asked me if I could tutor one of her struggling students. Soon after, I became the school's unofficial math tutor and spent the time tutoring students.
This experience, along with others, led me to discover my penchant for math and to the field of actuarial math.
The rigorous nature of the actuary exams necessitates a masterful level of comprehension. After nearly 2 years of independent study, I passed the first exam (Probability) in November 2009.
Apart from my actuarial pursuits, I have over 3 years of relevant academic experience in math and statistics.
Teaching Style
I believe that every individual has a unique style of learning. Unfortunately, larger classrooms or lecture halls often do not cater to many of these learning styles. Sometimes, the only barrier between frustration and comprehension can be a different way of having something explained. Or a catchy tune that can make all the difference in remembering an equation or expression. The potential is limitless if the teaching can be adjusted to match the learning style of the student.
I have had the benefit of some truly outstanding math teachers throughout my education that have made math both memorable and fun for me. I hope to pass on all that I have learned from them.
