Experience Summary
Throughout high school and college I showed proficiency for mathematics as well as an ability to help teach those around me. After college I became a pension analyst and have studied for several actuarial exams. In my current position one of my responsibilities is to educate new hires or colleges on systems and processes. Often times due to the nature of our work this requires a refresher math course to the trainee. The math involved ranges from basic elementary math to advanced calculus and actuarial principles. Teaching others math has always given me a great sense of satisfaction, and at this point in my career I have been contemplating going back to school to receive my teacher's certification.
Teaching Style
Being able to help others understand math gives me such a great feeling of accomplishment. I feel like I am helping them to solve a riddle and know from personal experience the vast opportunities that understanding math can give to you. I believe that the majority of students are not given the proper tools or techniques to understand math and that it needs to be individualized. Math is its own language and needs to be translated into that of the student in order for them to teach themselves. I believe that what I can offer is a starting point for them to be able to visualize math in their own terms.
