Experience Summary
I am a graduate of Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in English. In addition to studying English I also studied fine arts (painting, drawing, art history) and Spanish. I have tutored students from ages 5-18 in all subjects including English (reading and grammar), math, social studies, and science. My reading and grammar skills are helpful in all subjects because I am able to take apart sentences and paragraphs so that it is easier for students to understand. With my English background I am very helpful with reading assignments and book reports. I can help students with writing and editing papers as well as recognizing plot, themes, and motifs in stories, novels, and poems.
Teaching Style
I love teaching students of all ages and I recognize that most students do not get the help they need during the school day, which is why it is important for them to get the help they need outside of class. Each student learns differently and it is important for me to figure out a way that works best for him or her so that I can instill the techniques that will help them throughout their entire educational career. I find that many students get frustrated when they don’t understand and if I take the time to help them at their own pace in a teaching style that works best for them school becomes less stressful. I feel that once students feel confident in the classroom they can enjoy learning and that’s what I hope to give my students.
