Experience Summary
My teaching of children began in 2004, when I taught a Sunday school class to 5-year-olds at my church. Then in 2005, I assisted with teaching the local children at a small mission church. During the 2006 through 2008 school years I subbed in mostly elementary schools, but I also subbed in some middle and high schools. Since 2007, I have been tutoring Jefferson County Public School students in the No Child Left Behind program. The students have been a diverse group of faces including Mexicans, Somalis, Cubans, Hindus, Black Americans, and Caucasians.
Teaching Style
I am simply a teacher at heart. I believe it is important that the teacher really cares about the individual for learning to take place. I like to win my students with fun and games and with special one on one attention that makes them feel important and capable of succeeding. During the first meetings, I like to start them reading from children’s magazines where I let them choose the story or feature. Then, we move into my reading-strategies based style with grade appropriate award winning fiction and nonfiction.
