Experience Summary
My formal experiences as an educator began as an intern at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary where I educated visiting students on natural history and biology. This was when I realized how much I enjoyed teaching and the mutual learning environment. Since then I've had the opportunity teaching at the middle grades (full-time teacher at a local middle school), high school (through a fellowship at a local university), and college level (as an instructor at a local university). Although my bachelors degree was in environmental studies, I have an extensive background in teaching science and mathematics.
Teaching Style
I love having students learn through a hands-on approach and incorporating as much "real-world" scenarios in my teaching as possible. If students are unable to associate with what they are learning, they are often incapable of really understanding the concepts and retaining what they learn. I also think it's very important for students to have fun while learning so that they will invest the time and effort into continuing education.
