Experience Summary
At the University of Pittsburgh I learned many valuable skills that I use when tutoring. My Bachelor’s degree was a double major, both in French and in Linguistics. Consequently, I gained an understanding not only of language but also of how it works and how it is acquired. The experience of writing papers in various areas of study throughout my college tenure is also a teaching tool. I used this knowledge and experience in my first classroom teaching position last year teaching English in French elementary schools in Versailles, and also as a freelance English tutor in Paris as well.
Teaching Style
I think students sometimes do need a little extra help when it comes to schoolwork. My own experience has been that when I talk over an assignment with someone I often perceive it in a way that I would not have otherwise. I consequently listen to my students and work to help them see problems in more than one way before giving up. I also understand that sometimes it takes a few tries before a child understands a lesson, and I will pursue extra repetitions to help a student better understand what is asked of them. I am available to help in any way I can and I work hard to ensure that each of my students improves with each session and feels more confident in their classes.
