Experience Summary
As both a graduate student in education as well as a credentialed teacher focusing on literacy, elementary and secondary basic skills, I firmly believe that strong language skills are the foundation of a successful academic career. I also have years of experience as a literacy tutor and substitute teacher and have had the opportunity and privilege to work with learners from an array of demographics and backgrounds, including English as second language learners and first generation high school graduates.
Teaching Style
One of the reasons I work as a tutor is because of the freedom it gives me to address each learner’s needs individually; this means not only working with them on issues such as mechanics, grammar and organization, but on what I refer to as the academic “soft skills” such as time management, note taking and various strategies to analyze and articulate an argument as well. I am passionate about making sure struggling students gain the skills they need to reach both their individual goals as well as their academic potential.
Having both the skills and knowledge needed to help give those students the tools, strategies and confidence they need to succeed allows me to give back to the very students that inspire me on a regular basis.
