Experience Summary
After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in English, I married and worked at support jobs while helping to raise our two children. Upon finding myself a single parent, I decided to return to school and pursue my passion for learning and working with children by obtaining my Masters in Special Education. I have since had the opportunity to work with general education students while teaching Middle School English.. From there I have worked with alternative, at-risk students, emotionally disturbed students and physically disabled students. During the last 9 1/2 years I have taught English, reading, science, social studies and math.
Teaching Style
My philosophy of education is a student centered one. I strongly relate to the adage of serving as the “guide on the side” rather than the “sage on the stage.” I believe in focusing on individual needs, involving and motivating the students in the process of their learning. Their individual differences need to be recognized, respected, and even celebrated. I believe that all students have strengths, and that it is the goal of the teacher to assist them to identify and build upon these. To the world, a teacher might be just one person, but to one person a teacher just might be the world.
