Experience Summary
As a teacher, accountant, mother of 4, I have seen so many changes in education. Thank goodness, we are looking more at the student as an individual than as a cookie cutter kid. One size does not fit all. My passion, is to instill the love of reading into all children, as I did with my own, and as I try to with my high school students. Reading is the base of all education. If a student struggles here, it will show in all classes. I use a method where I find out exactly where a student is in his reading, and through running records, I can show him where he seems to be struggling. I also use above level books, where I just read to the student and he follows along, using the cloze procedure to make sure he is on track
Teaching Style
A child needs to have fun throughout the learning process. He learns best when he is excited and interested. He needs to be able to choose his own books to read. This usually entails a trip to the library. And from there, we start with shared readings, repeated readings, running records, echo readings and choral readings, just to name a few.
