Experience Summary
I developed an interest in tutoring during the beginning of my sophomore year of college, when the math department needed calculus tutors. Although I was not a math major at the time, I enjoyed calculus and decided to apply. Along with tutoring college students, I volunteered at Girls’ Inc to tutor young girls in junior high with numerous subjects. After earning my BA in mathematics, I worked at the learning center of another university tutoring undergrads in various math classes. Most recently, I worked at a high school tutoring 9th-12th graders in math, English, and social studies.
Teaching Style
I initially ask the client their preferred method of learning. If they are unsure, I try different approaches in an effort to find one that fits. I find that many people lack confidence, particularly in math. I try to build confidence in the student so that he or she will have faith in their learning ability, both now and in the future.
