Experience Summary
I love teaching and explaining new ideas. Even as a Biology student at Point Loma Nazarene University, I was working with other students to study in groups and always learned best by teaching the things I understood. I have experience working for Kaplan as an MCAT instructor, and have given lectures in biology, organic chemistry, general chemistry, physics, verbal reasoning and critical thinking. I have also tutored other students in biology, chemistry, physical science and basic math. I have excellent language and compositional skills and gained much experience writing lab reports and giving presentations. I also speak functional Spanish and am very comfortable communicating across cultural and language barriers.
Teaching Style
I love interaction and try to encourage as much participation as possible by asking questions. I feel that people learn best when they have an active role in the process. I also try to explain things with analogies as often as possible and have found that what might seem like a very simple analogy can often be the best way to "unlock" a person's ability to understand a concept. I have also learned that teaching is all about communication, and believe it is more that helpful to try and adopt one's communication style to meet different ways different people have of understanding.
