Experience Summary
In high school, I began teaching at an early age. I took a Teaching Cadet course in high school, in which I tutored and encouraged children in reading, math, and science skills. I also taught tennis every summer to children of all ages throughout my high school years. My first two years in college, I was involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters, in which I had a little brother that I tutored and mentored until he began middle school. I have also taught parenting and anger management courses. I have written and edited many research, doctoral, and final papers throughout graduate school as a student and as a graduate research assistant.
Teaching Style
I have worked with children since I was in Jr. High School, teaching Sunday School at my church. I have always been very patient with children and have allotted them time to comprehend a topic before going on to the next. I believe it is important to go about teaching children according to their individual learning abilities and interests. My experience working in the Early Childhood Education Department at the University of Oklahoma as a graduate assistant has also influenced my beliefs about teaching. I think it is very important to make learning interesting to the child by creating a learning experience that is based around their interests, while teaching them the skills they need to know to advance.
