Experience Summary
For 34 years I have taught almost every science, but my focus for the last 28 years has been chemistry - both high school and college courses. Since 1993 I have served as an AP Reader and a College Board Consultant, grading the AP Chemistry Exams and teaching teachers how to establish their AP program. Over 94% of my AP students have earned a "3" or better, with over 50% scoring a "5". By teaching teachers, I have a better understanding of what goes wrong in some classrooms, so I am able to help students bypass those barriers.
Teaching Style
While my focus in my classroom is the "lab experience", I make certain that students are competent problem-solvers. I have been tutoring extensively so I believe that I can get the maximum performance from my "tutorees". I bring my passion for teaching to both my classroom and to my tutoring sessions. Different students come with different needs, so I listen first in order to figure out how to be most effective. For the most part, I spent time "re-explaining" concepts that were not picked up in class, although for some students my strategy is to provide most effective test-taking skills.
