Experience Summary
I have tutoring experience in mathematics at the secondary and high school levels. One example of tutoring at the secondary level was when I tutored an eighth grade student in pre-algebra to improve his math skills to prepare him for high school algebra. The result of this particular tutoring was that the student began to understand and enjoy math, which was one of my goals. His grades subsequently rose from the "C" level to an "A" level. I have also had the privilege of tutoring high school and college age students in math, accounting, economics and finance and have enjoyed watching them succeed and move to a higher level.
Teaching Style
I consider myself a very energetic, competent tutor who considers teaching an art. I enjoy working with students to help them achieve their full potential. In many situations, the main reason that students struggle in learning and grasping certain academic subjects is due to the fact that students suffer a major disconnect with the course textbook on the subject. I consider it my job to bridge the gap between what the text is trying to communicate and what the student is retaining from the text. In working to close this gap, I often create my own learning aids that a student can understand. I delight in seeing students become excited about a subject matter as their initial fear gives way to a whole new understanding of the subject.
