Experience Summary
I attended the University of the Pacific when I was 35 years young and my goal was to graduate with a degree before the age of 40 which is what I did. Since that time, I have worked at the Lodi Unified School District as a substitute teacher, both long-term and daily, and as a primary teacher of general education and special education classrooms. Because of the current economic situation, I am without a full-time teaching job. I started tutoring students in reading and math as a way to continue to teach and earn an income. Teaching is my passion and my love and I welcome the opportunity to tutor more students for your company.
Teaching Style
I teach like I learn by hands-on, listening, reading, writing, and practicing what I have learned. I like to tap into prior knowledge of my students through informal and formal assessments, talking to their parents, and talking to them about what they think they are capable of or would like to improve about themselves. I praise students for their specific accomplishments and never make them feel bad when they are unable to do something they think they should be able to do better. I relate to people who struggle in math because I was one of those students. I have a lot of empathy and patience and that comes through in my teaching style.
