Experience Summary
My BA was earned at a small, independent, private college in Los Angeles. My major is in English, with a minor in Psychology and Sociology. I have a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, which was completed in 18 months. I have also passed the following educational tests in the state of California: CBEST, CSET (Multiple Subject), and RICA. (Reading Instruction Comprehensive Assessment). I have over 2,000 hours of in-home tutoring experience, in a wide variety of subjects with a full spectrum of student age ranges. In six years I have tutored students from first grade to High School, in subjects ranging from phonics, and reading comprehension to mathematics and algebra. I have taught for a year at an EDD (Emotionally and Developmentally Disabled) High School for students with many varying issues. I have been a substitute teacher for two years, in which time I have taught classes from Kindergarten Special Education to High School Algebra. Due to my experience, my teaching style varies with each individual student, becoming adaptable and flexible with each student’s learning style.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is adaptive, changing with the needs of the individual student. Since each student learns in a different manner, so have I learned to adapt my teaching to each individual student. Additionally, I ensure that while tutoring I bolster and reinforce the self-esteem of the student. Many times, the fact that a tutor is necessary may lead the student to the erroneous assumption that something is wrong with the student. My experience and teaching style is to celebrate every single student learning victory.
