Experience Summary
As an accounting graduate of a certified institution of higher learning with emphasis on the "hands-on" approach to learning, I have used this same approach in dealing with subordinates. Understanding accounting and finance should not be didactic but a process where the staff or student understand the conceptual approach to accounting. The student or staff constantly learns the importance of the concepts and how these concepts fit into the day-to-day operations of a business regardless of the size.
Teaching Style
My style is based on the fundamentals; you cannot progress unless the basics are understood. Only after understanding the basics can an individual move to a higher level of understanding. I am there to facilitate the basics so that we can move together in understanding more advanced concepts. Those students I had at Bryant & Stratton years ago applauded me for introducing them to the basic understanding of accounting. It still baffles me that many professionals fail to understand what a source document is; several associtaes thing that when they prepare an Excel spreadsheet that this is "the source". This is an ancillary or supportive document, but not the source of information.
