Experience Summary
I attended the University of Northern Iowa as an undergraduate where I received a bachelor’s degree in biology in May 2009. Beginning in August I will be attending Des Moines University where I will be pursuing a career as a doctor. Aside from having a passion for learning, I also greatly enjoy helping others. One way I have done this is tutoring students in inorganic and organic chemistry, as well as anatomy and physiology. I have also participated in various volunteer opportunities, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and helping in the Waverly Health Center Emergency Department. These experiences have allowed me to work with a variety of different people and develop efficient communication skills.
Teaching Style
I feel I have a unique teaching style. Because I have tutored students from sophomore in high school to sophomore in college, I have learned to tailor my teaching style to each specific student. For instance, I have used mnemonics, assignment homework assignments, and suggested drawing diagrams or rewriting notes to help students learn. Additionally, I am a highly dedicated individual and will not ever give up or quit on any student who wants to learn. I also believe it is important to develop a relationship with the student to provide a foundation of trust.
