Experience Summary
In high school, I served as a tutor for elementary school students for the state program Ohio Reads. At the University of Pittsburgh, I earned a BA in English Writing with minors in Chemistry and Studio Art. I have extensive experience in technical and laboratory writing, critical analysis, critiques and creative writing from related college coursework. I frequently aided fellow classmates and students in improving their writing independently. I have extensive experience working with the internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. I have completed four years of Spanish coursework and can tutor at the elementary and middle school levels.
Teaching Style
I believe a supportive environment is critical for an excellent learning experience. First, I work to set up an environment of mutual respect, a place where the student knows I respect him or her and the student respects me. To accomplish this task, I actively engage with the student by showing an interest in the student's life. Essentially, I get to know the student. I then aim to clarify the subject matter the student finds challenging. If they still find a concept confusing, I approach the topic in an alternate manner. I do not give up on the student or the topic; I believe every student can understand a challenging concept by having a teacher explain it to them in a way the student finds comprehensible.
