Experience Summary
I have two years of experience teaching the English language to Taiwanese children and youth. I have also worked with at-risk children and youth in summer and after-school programs. In addition, I have one year of experience in curriculum development.
In addition, I have earned a BA in political science (from a liberal arts college) and am currently working on a BS in accounting. I have an excellent command of the English language, social studies, and synthesis writing, and have successfully tutored my own child in phonics and reading.
Teaching Style
Having taught children and youth from age 5 through 16, I can truly say that I enjoy the experience. The truest reward is the facial expresssion when a revelation of learning has occured, or a skill mastered. I believe that learning can be made more interesting by showing its relevance in everyday living. To meet the teaching objectives, I employ a four-step teaching/learning process:
1. Presentation of material in a format relevant to the learner
2. Repetition of key learning principles and ideas
3. Practice, practice, practice
4. Successful re-presentation of the material to the instructor
