Experience Summary
I have a BA in Bible/English and 40 graduate hours in English education. Once my children were school aged I began teaching kindergarten. I was a substitute teacher for many years on the elementary and secondary levels. In 1997 I went back to work full-time as a special education teacher in a Christian school. I taught reading, English grammar and composition (grades 3-11), study skills, English, American, and world literature, and one year of geography. I have been instructed in the Wilson method of teaching reading and find it really helps students who are dyslexic or having problems learning to read. I have also worked in an after-school tutoring program for kindergarten and first grade students.
Teaching Style
I love working with students, and I especially enjoy helping students who are struggling with reading. It is very gratifying to see a reluctant reader master the necessary skills to succeed in all areas of his school work, and I feel this is best accomplished on a one-on-one basis. I would love to help your child develop his skills in reading or English grammar. I am patient, dependable, considerate, and always on time.
