Experience Summary
I have a master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from MGH Institute of Health Professions, including a concentration in reading. I have completed all courses and the clinical practicum necessary for reading specialist certification and have received training in the Wilson Reading System. I have tutored children in Kindergarten through 9th grade in reading with a focus on phonics and decoding skills and written composition, but also developing vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Teaching Style
I believe that to be a good teacher, one has to tailor instruction to the needs of each individual child. I am patient and easy going in my teaching style. I believe that structure is important to ensure that core skills are developed, but hope to help children learn in a way that is also fun, so they will look forward to each lesson. Reading is an essential skill that children will need throughout their lives, and every child can learn to read given the right instruction.
