Experience Summary
I have worked in Accounting and Finance management roles in large corporations for over 20 years. I have supervised, directly or indirectly, groups as large as 90 individuals. I also have managed smaller teams where I have had responsibility for one to four individuals. It became apparent to me early in my career that often my workers were not equipped with the appropriate knowledge skills to perform the work required by their position. Therefore, I have incorporated a teaching element into my management approach over the years, and have enjoyed the continual learning/teaching element of leading in the organizational context.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is casual and hands-on. I start with a discussion of the subject matter from a big picture perspective, to underscore the significance of the issue from an overall business management perspective. I move on to a discussion of definitions and fundamental concepts. I tend to communicate graphically, and enjoy drawing diagrams and charts. Next, I would move into an example illustrating the concept using very simple numbers. Finally, I would use actual problems or assignments from a textbook to ensure accurate application of the definitions and concepts that have been learned. I am patient with the learner. I enjoy the satisfaction of helping the learner achieve a "breakthrough" learning experience.
