Experience Summary
I feel that I am qualified for this position because I have 15 years of experience as a certified teacher. I have taught English II/CLA II for one year at the secondary level, twelve years in the first grade level ,one year as a fifth grade teacher and one year as a fifth/sixth grade teacher.
My Texas life certificates include: Provisional Secondary English (6-12), Provisional Elementary English (1-8) and Provisional Elementary Self-Contained. The last three years I taught first grade at a campus that had been under a Reading First Grant and I had been trained in numerous reading strategies and activities. In the fall of 2006 I completed an on-line Masters of Education in Reading.
Teaching Style
I taught first grade for a twelve years and I am used to using manipulatives, flash cards or whatever materials my students need to be successful. I believe that when students conquer reading/writing and are reading/writing on grade level all subjects fall into place because when students can read all subjects are easier for the student to be successful. I have a great amount of patience and I am persistent with my students because I want them to learn as much as their ability allows them.
