Experience Summary
As an electronics technology teacher, I was regularly approached by students who needed assistance with mathematics. I provided assistance to high school students who were enrolled in both online and traditional mathematics courses. As a mathematics instructor at a community college, I made myself available for assistance and provided individual tutoring on a regular basis. This past year I lead courses in science and mathematics at a private school and provided tutoring assistance to struggling students.
Teaching Style
I believe that learning in a logical progression from simple to complex steps. When I introduce a new topic I always discuss the fundamentals needed to be successful. Then, I generally move progressively to higher complexity problems. This allows the student to explore and make connections. I also believe that real life problems are required so I encourage students to write their own problems and solve them utilizing the techniques learned in the lesson. I am committed to the idea of empowerment and the need for students to feel successful when in the past they may not have performed to their potential.
