Experience Summary
I recently earned my M.A. in Counseling. I have extensive experience in working with individuals (children, adolescents, adults), from diverse backgrounds. I have earned two B.A. degrees, in Psychology and Spanish. I am very familiar with the academic and learning environment, as well as the struggles and stresses of reading, writing, studying, test-taking. I have experience in working with individuals with developmental delays and learning disorders.
Experience in tutoring inlcudes: English tutor for a Spanish speaker, algebra for an adult. Although I do not have specific experience, I feel comfortable in tutoring at an elementary/middle school level for English/Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies
Teaching Style
My teaching style initally involves getting to the know the person, what they are struggling with, why they think they may need a tutor, and anything they have tried in the past and what has and has not worked for them.
I like to encorporate all aspects to assist with learning (visual aids, listening, and hands-on/practical). This may involve games, cartoons/movies (if tutoring Spanish), worksheeets. I also feel that goal-setting is important, and I think I would ask the tutee to set some individual/personal goals for themself, (i.e. amount of time studying or achieving certain fluency level).
