Experience Summary
I have earned my BS in Biology from Westminster College. I am currently applying to veterinary schools to become an equine veterinarian. This path has led me to master the basic sciences, including biology, chemistry and physics, as well as to gain a solid background in mathematics through calculus and statistics. During the last four years I have tutored high school students in math and the sciences. I am an avid reader and excelled in my SAT and GRE Verbal and Reading Comprehension sections. I have a solid understanding of the test taking techniques that will help students excel at standardized tests. My extensive experience teaching horseback riding has also taught me how to work with children and young adults as an effective teacher.
Teaching Style
I graduated from a small, hands-on high school that focused on experiential learning. This coupled with my time at a small liberal arts college dedicated to teaching more than research, has shown me the value of a one on one relationship with a teacher. I believe all students learn in different ways. It is the task of a good teacher to find the strengths of each student and to teach them to overcome their weaknesses. Often it is not mastering content that presents a problem for students, rather it is that they have never been taught how to learn. I strive to help my students to discover their unique style of learning so they can apply it every subject they study.
