Experience Summary
My specialties are reading, writing, and speaking. For over 20 years, I have done performances and workshops on literature, history, and acting in a variety of school and library settings.
Most recently, I have expanded my areas of expertise to include teaching English to speakers of other languages. I have been tutuoring one-on-one and in group conversations for the past six months, so far with students from West Africa, various parts of Europe,Taiwan, South Korea, China, Mexico, and Peru.
In addition to teaching one-one-one I am certified to teach young learners, grammar, pronunciation, Business English, Teaching with Audio-Visual, Teaching with Limited Resources, and Teaching Across Cultures.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is tailored to each individual student. During our first two sessions, I will be able to determine which teaching methods get the best response. Some students learn kinetically, with lots of motion necessary to avoid boredom, while others must have all their senses stimulated. For each lesson, in order to gauge the response of my student, I include audio/visual for listening skills and oral comprehension, picture identification for level of language skills, singing, repetition for pronunciation and language acquisition, conversation, reading and comprehension, and writing/cloze exercises for production of learning skills. Warning: I give homework!
