Experience Summary
I began my career in education as a Teach For America Corps member. Teach For America is nationally recognized non-profit agency committed to addressing inequities in education. I was a 7th and 8th grade language arts teacher from 2001-03. In 2007 completed a dual certification graduate program at Seattle University in School Psychology and School Counseling. I have expertise in developing academic interventions for struggling learners. i have served students in both public and private education ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I have competency in instructing reading and writing. I am trained in the 6 traits of writing and reading programs such as Read Naturally for the development of reading comprehension skills.
Teaching Style
I believe all students have the capacity to learn and achieve their very best. I am a firm believer in encouragement and building a student's self-confidence. I believe many students require additioanl instructional opportunities to master literacy skills. I incorporate a multi-modal opproach to instruction. I utilize both verbal and nonverbal strategies in my instruciton and strive to clearly deliver academic content with a consistent focus on checking for a student's understanding of the material. I believe with a clear focus on specific reading and writing skills, effective execution of instruction, and lot of encouragement a student will learn and become motivated to keep growing their knowledge in a particular academic area.
