Experience Summary
My enthusiasm for the natural world began at an early age and as never left me. I enjoy sharing my experience and understanding of natural processes with others. My favorite area of biology is botany. I received an undergraduate degree in biology and a minor in botany. Additionally, I have two masters degrees, one in biology and one in teaching. Currently I teach general biology labs but I have taught freshman biology lecture as well. I have taught basic ecology to students in grades 3rd -6th grade in an environmental center as well as teaching non-major students basic botany. I am certified in K-12 environmental science and enjoy teaching because each class is different and every student unique.
Teaching Style
I approach tutoring with the assumption that every student wants to learn more but isn’t always sure how to proceed. Each student brings his or her own perspective to understanding a subject. I try to find where the student is having difficulty and how they process the material i.e. are they a visual learner, auditory, kinesthetic learner etc… It is also important to address any misconceptions they have and to do so early so that they can build a sound base for learning. It is my job to increase their mastery of a subject, but I also feel it is important to build self-confidence in my students because this carries over into many other aspects of their lives.
