Experience Summary
My educational background is in physics and mechanical engineering with minors in math and astronomy. After college, I've aimed towards obtaining a secondary math teacher license. Currently enrolled in the Alternative Routes to Licensure in SLC, I have taken education classes and gained 3-years experience teaching pre-algebra and 4th grade math and preschool. I have found that after teaching multiple grades, I want to focus on teaching math at a higher level. I have 6 years of tutoring experience both independent work and with ClubZ! Tutoring. I have tutored in Maine and SLC at the high school and college level in math, as well as at the high school level in biology, physics, and chemistry.
Teaching Style
As a teacher, I prefer a student-directed teaching style over a teacher-directed learning style in the classroom. I believe that setting up lessons where the students develop concepts and do most of the critical thinking is most important for their education, self-esteem and self-empowerment. The teacher is there to guide and mentor students to a preselected objective by asking well thought through questions and providing ideas to consider.
As a tutor, I would assess the student's prior knowledge and start building concepts in small managable steps so the student can more deeply understand the materials and start making connections to the topics being taught in class.
