Experience Summary
During my many years of teaching, tutoring, substitute teaching, and youth ministry work, I have worked with a wide variety of students from urban and suburban environments. I've always enjoyed learning, earning a BA in Secondary Education (summa cum laude) and an MA in English from John Carroll University. I have taught all areas of English and have tutored in everything from history to algebra. My greatest strengths lie in helping students learn to write coherently, read fluently, and prepare adequately for the ACT.
Teaching Style
I have worked with high school students reading at a third grade level as well as those who could succeed at an Ivy League school--and have appreciated all of them. I especially enjoy the challenge of motivating the under-achiever or capturing the interest of the student who is frustrated in a typical classroom. I also love seeing how a student who is "left-behind" or "unnoticed" in a large class can blossom and achieve so much with one-to-one instruction and that's one of the main reasons I like tutoring. I really do enjoy getting to know people and helping them achieve their educational goals and dreams.
