Experience Summary
Currently working on my PhD in English, I am passionate about writing and literature. While earning my BA in English, and later, my MA in English, I worked as a writing consultant, tutoring college students from various disciplines in one-on-one sessions. I helped them at all stages of the writing process, and also worked with students for whom English was a second language. In addition to writing skills, I am qualified to tutor in literature, and have taken several graduate courses on teaching and tutoring pedagogy. For the last three years I have taught college composition courses, for which I have always received positive student and administrator evaluations and was recognized with an award for teaching and academic excellence.
Teaching Style
Having worked as both a tutor and a teacher, I understand the diverse and specific needs of individual students, and have found myself capable of meeting them. I try to help students become better writers by teaching writing as a process, and emphasizing skills and strategies that will carry over to future writing projects. I can say with confidence that I have seen improvement in the writing of students I have met with over the length of a semester. I enjoy meeting with students and even make one-on-one sessions an important component of my larger composition classes.
