Experience Summary
After graduating from The Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, I worked at the Baltimore Museum of Art, creating signs, brochures, and the large banners advertising the current exhibition.
Eventually, I began my own business in graphics, developing proficiency in graphics software-creating on the computer. In fact, the computer can be used as a creative tool to plan out artistic concepts.
In addition to watercolors, acrylic painting, and pastels, more recently I have expertise in art quilts, polymer clay, faux finishes, murals, jewelry making and papier mache. Two of my projects have been demonstrated on HGTV, and one on a local radio station.
Teaching Style
Art is my greatest joy, and the desire to pass it on grows daily. Many never get the opportunity to express themselves artistically; I believe everyone deserves this opportunity.
I believe in a firm foundation (the basics) - then progressing on to individual styles. Since I am self-taught, I know what steps students need to understand the process and be successful. There is no substitute for hands-on experience; when we see, touch, try and experiment, we learn. It is not enough to simply convey information; a student must know WHY. This he(she) can take with him long after tutoring is completed.
Developing the creative instinct is the greatest gift we can give students; it prepares them for life in ways we may not imagine.
